PUBG Mobile: battle royale sensation review

players parachute down to an island in PUBG Mobile, fighting for survival and rare items

Tencent Games, including the Lightspeed & Quantum studio, developed a mobile adaptation of the original battle royale PUBG: Battlegrounds titled PUBG Mobile. It was released in March 2018 achieving immense popularity and surpassing a billion downloads by 2022.

Gameplay

Its multiplayer version accommodates 100 players who parachute on an island, fight, and gather gear until there is a single survivor. They can choose to play solo, in doubles, or squads.

At the start of each game, players are required to jump from a plane while parachuting onto the island. Different starting points change from match to match. Next, they can search for items in structures, which include various pieces of gear and clothing. In more dangerous parts of the island, scattered gear is of better quality.

Players can loot slain opponents for their equipment and choose between first and third-person perspectives. They are required to relocate as the playable area tends to decrease. If players remain outside the blue zone for too long, they will incur damage over time and eventually be eliminated.

Events can cause random areas of the map to become a danger zone. In these zones, players are open to being bombed.

The main objective is to be the last person or team alive.

In PUBG Mobile, players can receive rare items marked by red smoke from an airdrop, which often leads to intense battles. Matches last for approximately 30 minutes.

Mobile-version features include bots, auto-loot, map improvements, and other missions. Login bonuses are also provided for the players.

Game modes:

  • Classic. Standard battle royale.
  • Arcade. Shorter, faster matches.
  • Team Deathmatch. Fights between team members take place in specific locations.
  • Training. Practice skills.
  • Payload. Heavy weapons.
  • 4v4 Arena. Team-focused combat.
